I went home for the holidays and immediately was challenged to stick to my normal healthy eating habits. It happens to us all especially in a new enviorment full of things we try to limit. Here are a few tips I use to help myself get back and stay healthy and vibrant!
1. Pre packing meals // a food prep day.
I have been packing my lunches and snacks for a few months now and have had great success, but sometimes I don’t pack enough or the right things because I’m in a hurry. My GOAL is to chop and prep food 1x a week to make packing lunches a breeze. The brain damage of packing lunches every single day and chopping things up to make a delicious meal detures from my success. Often we get hung up on eating healthy and over think it or feel deprived after having to use will power for resisting temptations around us. Cut out the middle man and prepare for the week on a Sunday by cutting up veggies and cooking up some healthy carbs and proteins to portion out.
2. Eat similar things around the same time
This goes hand in hand with pre packing. When you don’t have to think about what you are going to eat, you feel satisfied because you had prepared the meal you would eat, ate it, and have moved on to the next thing. When you know that you will eat something at this time each day then do, you are less likely to feel like you need to keep eating. This also helps with cravings by allowing your body to know it will be fed at similar times each day and doesn’t need to look elsewhere for energy.
3. Do not deprive yourself // find healthy alternatives
I LOVE eating healthy. I’m passionate about it. That being said I don’t just eat vegetables all day. I like to be nourished by not only nutrient dense foods but foods that satisfy my craving. Yep that’s what I said! Indulge!! Not too much though, let me explain. I try to structure my day around eating the most nutrient dence foods I can. Spinach and lettuces topped with peppers or carrots, apples, heathy oils and quality proteins. I then add in a peice of dark chocolate, or two or three… Because I know I love chocolate, dark is much better that milk and I prefer it! I don’t do that everyday. Maybe tomorrow is a glass of wine with my husband or a baked good I made. Eat to nourish yourself FIRST, and add a little of what you love SECOND. Also, see if you can substitute things you love with healthy alternatives. For example, replace movie popcorn with an olive oil and sea salt mix.
