I like the underdog. Those small businesses that the government would love to make survival impossible for. Sorry, I’m a little sensitive on the topic. Really though, starting and running your own business is HARD. You are completely dependent on a large enough following or clientele to choose you over the big guy, the consistent, easy predictable guy. Don’t we just love safe? That being said, when a new business cares about the people they serve and has something profound to offer, that business becomes a lighthouse among the sea. Not to get all poetic but I really do have a very large and very special place in my heart for the dreamer that makes it happen against the odds.
Lets add food into the equation and I’m in love. Our little find this week in Phoenix was the Coronado on 7th Street and East Monte Vista Road. We were driving around semi aimlessly when the little place caught our eye for reasons of style and that we had never seen it before.
Upon walking in I found the style to be extremely inviting and designed with great taste. With eclectic statement pieces, modern flares and lots of potted plants, I was in love. The modern touches brought out the best in this renovated 1920 ‘s house made restaurant.
The Bar tender was the cutest thing ever.
Ok now the food. Let’s just say we cleaned our plates… all four of them between the two of us… The Coronado offers Mainly vegan cuisine with a gourmet twist. Every thing we orders was plated so beautifully and the taste pairings were genius. They were very accommodating to my gluten allergy and made one of the dishes, the fried Guac, gluten free. That was absolutely my favorite dish. Home made corn tortillas drizzled with some vegan queso sauce sided with extremely good guacamole. Our drinks were delicious as well, I went with my normal red and the two mix drinks my husband had were artistically crafted to taste perfection. This place deserved a 5 star rating, as it would be somewhere we would go again and again in the very near future!
