I love to travel. It’s one of my life’s passions. The excitement of a new place, the adventure of exploring it, and stories to tell for a lifetime.
When I travel, I love not only to enjoy the experience but also to feel energized during the trip. You don’t want to eat heavy food that slows you down! You want to have tons of energy for your trip!!! I put together a few tips and tricks as well as what I ate on my little trip here to help you during your next travel feel amazing and energized so you can fully enjoy the gift of variety the world has to offer!!
Tip 1: Starting your trip off the right way
Make sure before you leave for your trip, you have a healthy breakfast full of protein, healthy fats and some complex carbs. You are going to be walking through an airport, off your normal schedule and maybe needing a little extra energy to keep you going. Even if it’s just a short flight or a short car drive, eat a nutrient packed breakfast before you go!
Here I made a little protein shake with lots of nutrients. I often don’t use protein powder because I believe in whole foods but I allow myself to supplement it in as long as I am getting whole foods as well.
Tip 2: Pack smart snack for your long hours of travel
Pack enough snacks for at least the first day. Here, for a five hour car ride I packed some snacks for my husband and I to tide us over. The best things to pack are fruits veggies and proteins. We stopped for a lunch, but if you don’t have time to stop or need to order from a restaurant at the airport or on the road, opt for a bid salad with proteins or hummus and veggies.
Here was my lunch!
Here are our car snacks
Quest bar for a little protein! I try not to eat these too often though maybe once a week because they are very hard to digest. Even better than this would have been almond butter and an apple or a hand full of cashews and some veggies!
Tip 3: Plan to succeed when you get to your destination!
On this trip, we got to our destination, had a healthy dinner and then went right to the store. I bought some fruit and items for in between meals so we could snack. Berries and carrots are my go too, but having almond butter or a protein source is great! For example, we are lunch at chipotle after our morning workout, and later I grabbed some almond butter, a little bit of veggies and fruit and a kombucha. I was still hungry from our workout so I had some almond milk and a little bp coffee! It was all about having those ingredients on hand!
Tip 4: Lastly, don’t worry about being perfect.
Being healthy is a lifestyle. So on your trips try to eat healthy the best you can. I know it’s harder when I travel somewhere and normally I don’t even really do protein bars but just do what you can and fuel your body with whole foods to the best of your ability! Here are so Paleo/Vegan cookies I made and am perfecting so I can share the recipe with you!
