For two weeks I am visiting my beautiful hometown, Portland. Although my family does not live downtown I wanted to at least make it down a time or two. After all, keeping Portland weird was a job I was assigned to being born their (totally a Portland joke) and I have enough weird to go around.
The coffee was so awesome. They roast their beans in house and I could tell they took their time to craft each drink with precision. I am not a syrup girl but they also make their own syrups in house as well, which is pretty stinking awesome. The coffee shop is also really darling and hip when it comes to the atmosphere. It would be a place for someone like me who works from a computer to spend hours in. I of course orders a almond milk latte.
We (I) decided we were hungry so we ventured further down Alberta to find a cool Indian food restaurant called The Bollywood Theater. My friend (whom you can check out here) recomended the Dahl which was a curry/ coconut milk and veggie type stew poured over saffron rice. It was one of the most flavorful dishes I have ever tasted. I really like bold and lots of spice so this was right up my ally. Totally vegan and gluten free too!
Still hungry after splitting our dish we continued our foodie venture down a block to a little bakery called Back To Eden. An ALL GLUTEN FREE bakery (yes I truly was in Eden) it also had dairy free, vegan and even nut free options. We picked two things out to split: a strawberry rhubarb pie topped with soy icecream and (my favorite) a garlic savory roll (much like a cinnamon roll only savory instead.
OMG in the most literal sense just incredible flavors that my friends probably couldn’t tell were allergy friendly. The rhubarb pie was so perfectly balanced between sweet and creamy/crunchy. The Icecream on top was a great option. That savory roll though got me. I will HAVE to recreate it. Flakey rolled pastry baked to perfection lined with a creamy garlic/ herb spread like you have never tasted. It was SOOOO good considering I am totally a savory garlic girl for life (rock on🤘🏻).
P.s. The staff was super sweet like their treats!
All in all you have to spend at least a day in any Portland district, then go back periodically for other full days!
