SO.. I really enjoy painting, and especially African animals for some weird reason (God are you telling me something…? lol)
Here, I painted a elephant for my roommate a few years back. He was done with about 4 colors
The “cool” thing about acrylics is that they have cooler tones, and are great for quick paintings that you can layer on the spot. So spontaneity is welcomed. I mixed colors for shades and only had to wait a moment for a stroke to dry before I fixed or added to it.
Now here is my Tiger. He is Painted on canvas with oil. My FIRST oil painting and I learned so much.
1. Oil painting is harder, more of a technique to learn and has to be someone planned or thought out. These are going to be your “warmer” types of paints.
2. Mistakes are harder to fix and at it’s thickest oil can take MONTHS to dry, a day if you do a base layer at the least. It is also harder to paint over pencil especially with white/ lighter colors.
3. It requires many more materials and cost much more.
But because of this and because it is oil based there is a warmer tone and much more detail and depth that can be added.
There is much more to learn about oil and I plan to watch some how to video’s before my next attempt!
